You'll learn everything you need to know to be a competent sea mariner. How to tie knots and where to use them, rules of navigation, interpreting weather conditions, boat maneuvering and more! You'll even learn the essential survival skills needed to really rough it in the wilderness. You'll be a Salty Sea Dog in no time!

Fishing - Salt Water fishing for Salmon, Halibut, Rockfish, and lingcod. How to catch Alaskan crab and shrimp. Fresh Water for Rainbow/Cutthroat Trout, and Salmon.

Forget digging for worms! We're going to show you how to catch the big ones! Some of the biggest fish in the world are here in Alaska and they're just waiting to jump on your hook. You'll learn the special techniques required to catch huge king salmon, massive halibut, and many of other species. You'll also learn first hand how to set crab and shrimp pots like a pro. Forget the little 10 pounders you catch in a lake - you're going to fish the mighty Pacific Ocean for the BIG ONES! And if you're lucky, you'll catch one big enough to mount on the wall. Dad will be squirming with envy!

Sea Kayaking - Instruction on how to kayak and travel in shallow bays and inlets with ease to view wildlife up close!

There is nothing quite as peaceful as skimming along the ocean tides in a sleek kayak, eye to eye with nature. On your Alaskan adventure we'll teach you how to properly navigate a kayak. Paddling techniques, gear preparation and safety skills are all on the agenda. The only sound you'll hear is your paddle pushing through the waves and the wind whistling across the bow of your kayak. Kayaking provides the perfect opportunity to take photographs and study the amazing sea life of Southeast, Alaska.

Hiking - Explore the Tongass National Rainforest, Beaches, Lakes, and Streams.

Put your boots on - we're heading into the wilderness! What would a trip to Alaska be without a good trek through the woods? The Tongass National Forest is one of the largest temperate rain forests in the world, thick with cedar, hemlock and spruce trees. This area is virtually untouched by man! You'll also be exploring the unique beaches, lakes and streams that make this area so amazing. When you reach the summit of that peak and look out across the vast forest, fjords, inlets and bays, you'll know why explorers risked it all to come to this land for hundreds of years. This is America at its finest!

Oceanography - Marine Biology & Aquaculture - Learn about sea life, tides and currents in southeast Alaska. Tour a operational Oyster Farm and Salmon Hatchery.

Yeah, yeah, it sounds like homework - but when the Pacific Ocean is your classroom, it's far from boring! You'll learn about the tides and currents that make this area of the world unique. Tides can differ by more than 24 feet within 12 hours here! You'll learn about the incredible sea life of the Pacific - where fish grow to amazing sizes! You'll explore tide pools, beach comb and study the abundant sea life of Southeast, Alaska. You'll also visit an operational oyster farm and a salmon hatchery. You'll get to see first hand how various types of seafood are grown and developed for the markets of the world. This is one homework assignment you won't mind doing!

Cooking - Learn how clean your catch and then cook it with the supervision of our chef.

If you want to be the best fisherman you can be, you have to know what to do with that fish once it's in the boat! You'll learn how to clean, dress and cook your catch to bring out the best flavor possible. Delicious salmon, succulent shrimp, delectable crab and mouth-watering halibut will be on the menu daily! And the best part about it? When you get back home, you can kick mom out of the kitchen and show her how it's really done!

Leadership, Teamwork, Personal Responsibility Skills - These are life skills that will serve you well in the Alaskan wilderness.

We want to teach you the skills necessary to be an important part of the Rocky Bay Lodge Wilderness Team! We all have to work together to ensure the safety, fun and success of your stay. together!
