Welcome to Alaska Kids Camp!

Day 1
Campers arrive in Ketchikan  on Alaska Airlines flight 175-3:35PM.  A camp representative well greet them at the airport where their adventure begins. Campers will be exposed to a scenic trip through the islands of Southern Southeast Alaska from Ketchikan to Camp. Upon arrival, campers will be introduced to their Camp guides and settle in to their rooms were they can meet fellow campers.  Top off the day with a hardy Alaskan Dinner (that would make your Moms and Dads jealous.)
 

Day 2
Breakfast 8:00

Boating is our most important hands-on learning activity. At this point, we will teach some basic maritime skills, rules-of-the-road, proper outboard/ boat maintenance, the proper use and care of all safety devices. Following Lunch, Campers will learn boat handling, understanding weather and sea conditions and some understanding of the tides and how they affect the weather and ocean for safe travel. After another hardy Alaskan meal, campers get to do some fishing with their camp guide. This is a Great experience for young campers to learn the skills needed to
run a boat and learn responsibilities and Team Work!

Day 3
Breakfast 8:00
Marine charts and navigating skills are another big part of maritime boating. Here we will teach basic navigation and do a little practice in course plotting.  After lunch, the  guides  will show the campers how to use the different types of fishing gear including the latest rods, reels, line, lures, hooks, bait and explain how to identyify different species. Campers will be fishing for: Halibut, Salmon, Cod, and rock fish. Each camper will learn how to properly clean and care for his or her catch, which includes freezing to take home.   After a big hardy Alaskan meal, campers  can go Kayaking the first time (guided only) and explore.  The campers are always with guides while in the water or away from the lodge, to help them learn the proper way to do each ativity they engage in.

Day 4

After breakfast, Campers will bait shrimp pots and set them for shrimp, yum yum! A short hike up a nearby stream will yield to some excellent freshwater fishing.  Guides will teach the campers in the use of spinning rods.   At the lake, and after lunch, Campers will fish the lake two hours then fish their way  back down  the stream for the lodge. Campers will help prepare tonight’s seafood meal, with our cooking staff, so they can learn some recipes for all the fish campers bring home to Mom and Dad. AFter Dinner at 5:30, it will be  time to haul the shrimp pots and reset them for the next day.  Everybody gets to help. Always teaching team work and respect.

Day 5
Breakfast 8:00
 
After breakfast, campers will get to enjoy a morning of wildlife viewing, with photo ops at every turn. Animals will include  Black bear, Black tail Deer, Bald Eagles, Humpback Whales, Killer Whales, Harbor Seals, and Sea lions,  After lunch campers will haul the shrimp pots, then learn how to properly clean them out and put them away. After dinner, campers will get to go kayaking again, or try thier hand at beachcombing for glass balls and other hidden treasures.  Alaska Kids Camp is all about Hands-on Learning!!

                               

Day 6
Breakfast 8:00
 
Who can catch the biggest King Salmon today? Each guide will gear up and take their group out fishing for the Alaska Kids Camp King Salmon Derby. Before lunch Campers will weigh in their catch.  After unch at 12:00 , camper  will go back out and continue fishing for the  King Salmon Derby. Weigh in at Dinner (5:30)  Campers will continue fishing  after dinner and  weigh in by 7:30 . Who wins 1st. 2nd. 3rd, Place? Which group caught the most pounds total?  Friendly competition is healthy and fun!

 

Day 7

Alaska Kids Camp Halibut Derby begins. Guides will gather their group one last time for the Halibut Derby, with a weigh in before lunch. (Lunch at 12:00) Campers will continue fishing the derby and weight in no later than 4:00. Who wins 1st. 2nd. 3rd, Place? Which group caught the most pounds total? Campers well begin cleaning and gathering their belongings for thier departure the next day. Dinner at 5:30 Award Ceremony begins.  With prizes for longest fish, heaviest fish (King, Halibut, and Rock Fish), and the group with most catches, and most weight.

 

Day 8

Early morning departure from Camp to the Ketchikan Airport. An Alaska Kids Camp representative will assist the Campers with Luggage, ticketing, boarding and say their good byes. Alaska Airlines flight 65 Arrives in Seattle 12:28pm.
